“As a school teacher who has to deal daily with the “radio-active” fallout of pop culture – the worldviews, language and lifestyles young people pick up from the entertainments they imbibe – I wish that both of these powerful programs were required viewing in every high school health class in America.” Laura K. Birkofer, Blackman High School, Murfreesboro, TN

“It’s extraordinary how potent cheap music is.”  Noel Coward (1989-1973) English actor, playwright, and composer of popular music

After the great success of Hell’s Bells 1 and 2, a number of people asked us to produce something exposing the influence of pop culture that could also be shown in the public schools - in other words, videos that didn’t use scripture or present the Gospel.  We were initially hesitant for a couple of reasons:

  • There is nothing in our Constitution that forbids presenting the Gospel, verses from the Bible or the Christian worldview in a public school.  On the contrary, the First Amendment restricts the government from limiting our religious freedoms.  To remove the Christian message was to accept this perversion of our legal system.
  • It also removes the heart of our message.  In the end, we’re not interested in just getting people to change what’s in their CD player or what they watch on TV.  We want to see the Holy Spirit change their hearts.

In the end, however, we decided that “exposing the disease without presenting the cure” was better than just letting the sickness go undiagnosed.  Furthermore, enough of the truth could still be shared to provoke the viewer to take the next step, perhaps even opening a door for them to watch Hells Bells 2 after school or in some other venue.

These two programs – together for the first time on DVD – are the result.

Sound and Fury: The Incredible Power of Music Culture conclusively demonstrates that we become what we listen to.  Adapted from the second section of Hell’s Bells 2, this half-hour presentation is guaranteed to “rock their (the viewers) world” and provoke serious thought and discussion for anyone who isn’t willfully blind.

MTV Examined tears the lid off of the popular and frightenly influential network.  This 30 minute, award-winning exposé reveals the messages, worldview, agendas and manipulative power of MTV and provides as prophetic glimpse into the soul of modern youth culture.  Note: This video was produced in 1994 so some of the examples are a bit dated.  But the principles, ideas and dangers are still very relevant.  The more things change, the more they remain the same.
